BISMARCK, ND – Tomorrow marks the beginning of National Police Week (May 11-17, 2022), and North Dakota’s sixty-six fallen peace officers will be remembered and honored during public events at the State Capitol and in communities across the state.

On Thursday, May 12, 2022, the annual state Law Enforcement Memorial Service will be held in Memorial Hall at the Capitol, beginning at 7:00 p.m.   

Lt. Governor Brent Sanford, Attorney General Drew Wrigley, and Chief Denis Otterness of the West Fargo Police Department will speak at the Memorial Service. Special Agent John Clemens, President of the North Dakota Peace Officers Association, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.

Chaplains from the Crisis Care Chaplaincy will officiate and read the Roll Call of fallen officers, supported by the North Dakota Peace Officers Honor Guard. Following the Roll Call, trumpeters Special Agent Duane Stanley and retired Highway Patrol Sgt Jerry Seeklander will play Taps as a tribute to those who have died. Captain Mickey Harmon (retired), formerly of the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, will play the bagpipes as the service comes to a close.

As dusk falls on Wednesday and Thursday evening,  the State Capitol building windows on two floors will be lit to display a “Thin Blue Line,” in a show of support and respect for all law enforcement, past and present.

The public is invited to attend the Memorial Service.
