Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem issued a Cease and Desist Order today against James Michael Austin, banning him from conducting business in North Dakota. Austin created a phony charity, Red Cross of Americas, Inc.

The State Board of Higher Education did not violate the open meetings laws when the Board chair gave a welcome at a social event and made reference to the agenda for the Board’s meeting the next day, because those comments were purely ministerial in nature.
UNLICENSED CONTRACTORS BANNED

Two unlicensed contractors - Collin Strehlow, dba NailedIt Home Improvements, and Anthony "Tony" Ronald Cline - have been banned from doing business in North Dakota after a district court found they had violated consumer fraud and licensing laws.
NORTH DAKOTA TO RECEIVE $34 MILLION IN TOBACCO SETTLEMENT

Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem today announced a settlement agreement that will release over $34 million belonging to North Dakota that has been held in an escrow account during a decade-long dispute between the state and the major tobacco companies.

CITY’S REMEDIAL STEPS SUFFICIENT TO REMEDY MEETING NOTICE VIOLATION

The city of Wildrose did not properly provide notice of a special meeting, in violation of the law. However, as the city held a subsequent properly noticed special meeting to discuss and confirm the actions at the improper meeting, and published minutes of the improperly noticed meeting, the city’s remedial steps were sufficient to remedy the violation.
