The consumer protection division was notified that local customers of Verendrye Electric Cooperative in Minot have received phone messages claiming there is an unpaid balance due and services would be disconnected unless payment was made immediately.

A man from Wahpeton, ND, reported that earlier this week he lost almost $9,000 when he responded to a threatening voice mail message left by someone claiming to be from the “Legal Affairs office” at the IRS.

Contractors in Watford City and Williston received surprise inspections from the Attorney General’s compliance task force earlier this week. The random inspections indicated that the vast majority of contractors are complying with state licensing and reporting laws.
